Terms of Use
Using the site
You may read, download, print, share and adapt the courses for any purpose, including commercial training, as long as you follow the licences below. You may not present the site as endorsed by any organisation that has not endorsed it, and you may not remove attribution or the originality notice when redistributing it.
Licences
- Course content (lessons, exercises, solutions, figures, datasets): Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Give credit to "IE Knowledgebase contributors", link to the licence, and say if you changed anything. A sensible attribution line is:
From the IE Knowledgebase (github.com/crackcode09/ie-knowledgebase), CC BY 4.0. - Code (scripts under each course's
tools/, the site generator, the site itself): MIT License.
The full text of both is in the repository's LICENSE file. Contributors keep copyright in what they write and license it to everyone on these terms by contributing.
Originality and the IISE catalog
The IE Knowledgebase is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or licensed by the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) or any other training provider.
The IISE Training Center publishes a catalog of professional courses. We used that public catalog in exactly one way: as a checklist of subjects an industrial-engineering curriculum should cover. Our category names and the course titles in the roadmap follow that catalog so that readers can see what is covered and what is still missing. A few courses also follow the order of topics listed in a public course outline, and say so in their README.
What we did not use: no IISE course materials, slides, handouts, workbooks, lesson text, exercises, exams, datasets, figures or instructor notes. None of the people who built these courses had access to that material while writing. Every lesson, worked example, dataset, figure, script and solution on this site was written independently (see the next section) and is original. Where a course covers a subject that has an official licensed data card or tables, such as MODAPTS or MTM-1, the course uses its own simplified teaching version and says so; the official data is not reproduced.
A list of topics is a statement of what a subject contains. We believe using it as a coverage map is fair and lawful; a reader learning time study, SPC or design of experiments needs the same list no matter who teaches it. If a rights holder disagrees about any specific page, the reporting process below applies and we will act on it promptly.
AI-assisted content and verification
The courses were written with substantial help from AI language models, guided by the contributors. That has two consequences you should know about:
- Mistakes are possible. Figures, formulas, standards references and historical claims can be wrong or out of date. Every dataset is simulated and every company and person named in a case is fictional.
- Each course carries a status. Draft means it has not yet been checked by a reviewer. Verified means a named reviewer has worked through the review checklist: originality (nothing copied from IISE or any other source), accuracy of the technical content, correct use of trademarks and licences, and that every number can be reproduced by the course's own scripts. The status is shown on every course card and at the top of every lesson.
Until a course is marked verified, treat it as a well-organised study guide to check against primary sources, not as a reference of record. The site as a whole is a preview release while that review is in progress.
Trademarks
IISE, Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, MODAPTS, MTM, MTM-1, Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, Excel, Minitab and all other names of organisations, methods, certifications and products mentioned on this site are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners. They are used only to describe the subject matter of a course, in the way a library catalog or a textbook index would. No use of a mark implies any connection with, or approval by, its owner. Belt names (Yellow, Green, Black, Master Black Belt) describe a level of content; completing a course here is not a certification from any body.
Educational use only, not professional advice
The courses are general educational material. They are not engineering, safety, ergonomic, medical, financial, accounting, legal or regulatory advice, and they do not replace the applicable standards, codes, regulations or a qualified professional's judgement for any real workplace, product or decision. Anything you apply from these courses, you apply at your own responsibility and after your own verification.
No warranty and limitation of liability
The site and its content are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the contributors and maintainers will not be liable for any loss or damage of any kind arising from the use of, or reliance on, the site or its content. Where the law does not allow a limitation to be excluded, it applies to the extent the law allows.
External links
Lessons link to standards bodies, publishers, software documentation and other sites for further reading. Those sites are not under our control; a link is a pointer, not an endorsement, and their own terms and privacy policies apply when you visit them.
Reporting a problem, including copyright or trademark concerns
If you believe anything on this site infringes a copyright or trademark, reproduces material it should not, or is otherwise wrong, please tell us:
- Open an issue at github.com/crackcode09/ie-knowledgebase/issues, or email the maintainer through the address on the repository's GitHub profile.
- Say which page (URL or file path), what the problem is, and if it is a rights claim, what you own and how to contact you.
We will acknowledge the report, remove or disable the specific material while we look into it if the claim is plausible on its face, and respond with what we did. Because the site's source is hosted on GitHub, rights holders may also use GitHub's DMCA process.
Accessibility
We aim to keep the site usable with a keyboard and a screen reader: semantic headings, visible focus, light and dark themes, reduced-motion support and keyboard shortcuts in the reader. If something gets in your way, open an issue and we will fix it.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change as the project grows, for example when the first courses are verified or if the site ever adds accounts or paid material. Changes are published here with a new effective date, and the edit history is public in the repository.
